Living A Life On Loan
Do you ever have trouble grasping the concept that God, Creator of the Universe, would or even could accomplish His good work through you? I mean, look at yourself? Look at me, for goodness sake? (OK, stop it…that’s enough looking at me!) We have talked about “messy people” recently and I’m in that boat along with everyone else. So, this idea that God would have a good work for us to accomplish is an amazing thought that on my best days astounds me and also humbles me. I introduce to you the idea of living a life on loan...
The truth is, as followers of Christ, we have been saved for more than an awesome eternity in heaven! There is more, you say? Why would I want more than that?” Isn’t heaven enough? Heaven is going to be amazing and I can’t even comprehend how marvelous that will be. But, until then, maybe God actually has plans to accomplish something through you here on earth…even today as you intersect with people. (Discover this in Ephesians 2:8-10)
I recently had the chance to listen to a man named Rick Russo speak regarding this very topic. Rick is on staff at a church in
As I began to share this with our leaders at LCC, we all agreed to trust ourselves to God with a renewed commitment to obedience to Him in living our lives for Him. Loving God and Loving others is the command Christ Himself gave us…let’s all renew our commitment to Him and decide to live a life On loan.
On September 21st, we begin a 6 week focus on this concept that I pray will simply bring us right where God wants us to be as His people and His church.
The “LIFE ON LOAN” LCC-Wide Experience
This church wide emphasis will couple together 3 Key Elements in the life of the church: Worship, Small Groups, and Service
Worship: Through a six week preaching series, the entire congregation will be exposed to the biblical teaching and challenged to live a life on loan from God.
Small Groups: Our Care Groups, Youth Ministry, Young Adults, and even Children’s Ministry will be utilizing material to step individuals through the principles of Life on Loan and given opportunity to see God help them live it out.
Service: We pray that the Life on Loan emphasis will be seeds that produce fruit that only God can grow! This will happen as people begin to connect Kingdom Service with their daily lives. It will also occur as people think “out of the box” in discovering ways they can serve both within AND outside the church walls. Living a life on loan is a lifestyle of discipleship which finds its fuel in service.
Longview Christian Church, this is our time to come together before our Creator and say to Him, “We are Yours, Lord. Take our lives and use them. For we know that our lives are not our own, but on loan from you to do Your good works.” If this is our prayer, I believe we will all sit back in wonder at what God does through us!
By grace,
Troy
