Kingdom Investments: No Bailout Necessary

by: Troy Bayne | December 09, 2008

I made the mistake a couple of weeks ago and took a peek at my investment statement!  I was just curious to see if all the media and talk about economic crisis in the country were true.  As I looked at that statement the reality of a 40% loss of my investments over two months gave me a clear answer: “Yes, Troy, there really is an economic crisis going on”.

I’m sure many of you are hit much worse while some less by this reality.  The truth is,  any earthly wealth we possess is subject to influences and conditions out of our control.  One day the investments are up and the next day they are down.  As the financial advisers would wisely say, we must think of our investments in a long-term manner.  This isn’t only true in regard to our earthly investments, but it is absolutely true of our investments into God’s Kingdom.

The Elders of Longview Christian Church are committed and unified in seeing our church family make an impact on the world around us, both locally and around the world.  The investments we make through our monthly tithes and special contributions are the most profitable investments we will ever make.

Keep these points in mind as you consider your year-end giving:

  1. Given with a sincere and generous heart, your gifts bring honor to our Creator.
  2. Your financial resources give you a chance to hold loosely the material possessions God has trusted you to manage.
  3. LCC is made up of families and individuals, including you, who provide the means to fund different ministries, support our staff, maintain facilities, and serve the community and world with the love of Christ.
  4. The ministries of LCC are growing and require monetary resources to expand the impact of their various focused areas.  Your year-end gifts allow these ministries to thrive!
  5. Several projects need funding as you consider making a special gift this season.  These include maintenance on facilities such as air conditioning repairs, carpet replacement, and other needed repairs.

If you are a bottom line person, here it is:  An investment in God’s Kingdom absolutely will never depreciate or cause spiritual bankruptcy.  You may not see the full return on your investment until you leave this earth, but God guarantees that your investments are secure.

So, if you’re looking for a bailout, remember God has already done that for you.  That happened once for all over 2000 years ago through Christ’s death and resurrection.  Its up to us to live our lives here on earth with a perspective on that eternal windfall awaiting us in heaven.
