Ninos de Mexico: Day 3
¿Que pasa Iglesia? Today has been an exhausting, but very rewarding day. We started off the morning by receiving our work assignments for the day. Timothy, Dave, and Christopher began tackling the plumbing issue. They are currently awaiting the correct materials after making two trips to Home Depot, and not getting the right ones (yes, they have Home Depot in Mexico; along with a Wal-Mart, Sally's Beauty Supply, and Blockbuster). Wesley, Gregory, and Estefania painted Daniel's office a very bright green (he is the Field Director here at Ninos). Jacquelyn sealed the concrete in the new enclosed kitchen here at the Genesis House (the girls only home). Lori Lynn, Diana Lael, and I sorted bags of clothes to be distributed to each of the four homes. Also, the girls took a trip with Tiffany (one of our hosts) and her three kids to the market. We picked up lots of fruit and took a Bicicleta Taxi back to Genesis. We experienced our first Botana (snack) of the trip, which consisted of Key Lime Pie (see recipe below). After our work day, we headed over to the Esperanza house to play volleyball with the guys. This was one of our first experiences to connect with the kids from the different houses. Dinner tonight was hosted by the girls of the Genesis House. They prepared burritos and quesedillas and a lemon lime drink. We also had the opportunity to purchase earrings handmade by the girls in the house. Overall, today was filled with lots of work, but most importantly, we were able to see the joy that these children display... a joy that can really only come from Jesus. Looking forward to tomorrow!
