There is always room in the family

by: Bob Sieh | April 14, 2010

The all church Catfish Fry on Sunday evening, April 11, was perfect way to glimpse the Longview Christian Church family. It truly was a family gathering.  We gathered together to eat, visit and enjoy one another's company. Many, many thanks to all the guys who cooked all that fish, chicken and fixins.

The food was outstanding, the weather beautiful and the turnout was spectacular. Many of our congregation brought their friends to the event. Our family is composed of all ages. There were newborns in arms all the way to octogenarians enjoying the evening. I heard one young mom telling her husband where their little baby was at that time. He had gone from one adoring church family member to another in the course of the evening. Naturally, Mom knew exactly who had her precious little boy.  I watched a toddler carry a ball half as big as he is around the tables.  Some of our older folks told me how much they had enjoyed the evening. People of every age enjoyed the visiting and fellowship.

After eating all that fish, chicken, hush puppies, French fries and dessert came the games. Impromptu Frisbee and kick ball games filled the soccer field. I mean, literally filled the field. There were so many kids and young adults out there it looked like one of those movies where mid-evil armies went  running full force at each other. Back and forth they would go without stopping. My grandson was right in the middle of it and his legs were so tired by the end of the evening he would lay down on the ground or floor just to rest them.  What an evening!

Our church family is growing because God is working in our midst. He is constantly bringing new people to us so they can have an opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and then be a part of an great church family. Right now Longview Christian Church is having a little  taste of what the first century church had a very big portion—the excitement of  His Spirit working in our midst. No we don't have thousands attending our worship services but we are filling the building. We haven't had 3000 baptisms in one day but we have had five in one weekend and three more a week or two later.

On Sunday, April 18, the Preaching Team will start a sermon series from the book of Acts. We hope to capture some of the excitement of the early church as God moved among them to include all people groups in His new church.  Please join us every Sunday in this adventure. Take advantage of the Bible Study hour now known as Foundation Studies. These are mostly basic studies from books of the Bible that are foundational for faith. One or two are specialty studies. There are graded classes for kids and youth and electives for adults.

Remember our new times: Worship Services 8:00 and 11:00 AM. Foundations Studies at 9:45 AM. There is a cookie and coffee fellowship time after the first service. (You didn't know that cookies and coffee fellowshipped together did you? )
Hope to see you Sunday.
