At Longview Christian Church, we describe membership through a humble reading of scripture. We believe that membership provides a path for a person to express commitment to the church’s vision, mission, and core beliefs. This expression invites the LCC family to share life together in worship, community, and service resulting in the edification of the local body and furthering growth in God’s Kingdom.
The Biblical Example
"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." - Acts 2:42-47
"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." - Hebrews 10:19-25
The Picture at LCC
At Longview Christian Church, we believe that when someone becomes a Christian, they become an automatic “Member” in the kingdom of God. Together we are connected with fellow believers across the globe in our shared task of loving God and loving others as we execute our call to carry out the mission of The Church. We believe that growth in our ability to accomplish this end happens best in the community of the local church. Joining LCC is not a matter of salvationor eternal life but is a decision to join our local family united in vision, mission, and beliefs that demonstrates a sense of ownership and responsibility for the ministry work of LCC.
Becoming a member lets the LCC family know you are committing to:
Growing as a Christian with our family
Actively participating in corporate worship
Consistently being involved in the LCC community
Serving with your God-given talents
Giving to the financial support of LCC
Supporting the vision of LCC as projected by the leadership (elders and staff)
Members are given the opportunity to have a voice in the decisions impacting the LCC family: affirming elders; affirming the LCC family budget; and, voting on other items brought before the community during congregational meetings.
After someone expresses their desire to become a member of Longview Christian Church, they will be invited to take part in additional conversations to discuss Core Beliefs and what makes LCC a unique and special local manifestation of the body of Christ. Those wishing to accept this invitation to membership shall acknowledge publicly their faith in Christ and their desire to pursue the life of a disciple in the fellowship of this congregation.
