Frequently Asked Questions
When is the retreat?
Friday evening, January 29 through Sunday morning, January 31. Registration is available online by clicking here or at the HUB on Sunday mornings. What is the topic for this year’s retreat? We'll be taking a look at the life of David, both as shepherd and king. Throughout his life David stayed faithful, although he made plenty of mistakes, to God. We'll be looking at David's calling, his courage, his failures, and his suffering. A number of our own men will be sharing from their own stories and walking through life's ups and downs with our Savior. Where is the retreat? Lakeview Baptist Assembly Grounds (Lonestar, TX). The camp is located about 45 minutes north of Longview on Highway 259/Eastman (see map below). What will we be doing? Will we be meeting and talking the whole time? What other things will we be doing? The retreat is a great mix of intentional time together in short sessions and small groups, activities, and down time to be refreshed. Our goal is that the men who come will be encouraged by and connect with other guys who are following Christ, will be challenged to grow in their walk with Christ, walk away with practical ways to continue growing and applying their faith in their daily lives, and refreshed by a chance to get away from the busyness of our weeks and weekends. (See the full schedule below.) How much does the retreat cost? How do I pay for the retreat? The retreat cost is $60 for those coming Friday Night and Saturday. It is $50 for Saturday only. You can pay with cash or check at the HUB on Sundays (beginning Dec 22nd), by sending a check to Longview Christian Church, 2400 McCann Rd (please include “Men’s Retreat” and your name in the memo line), or via Paypal by sending money to [email protected]. Scholarships are available (contact [email protected] for more information). Can my sons come with me? Absolutely! We do ask that those who attend are 12 years old or older. For fathers bringing their sons, the cost is $20 per son (maximum of $100 for a family). Will we be outside the whole time? What about COVID precautions? Due to COVID-19 and CDC recommendations, we will be spending our time outside throughout the retreat. Tents and heaters will be provided for our time and we'll enjoy plenty of time around the fire. Masks and social distancing are encouraged when meeting as a large group. What are the sleeping arrangements Friday Night? The group will have access to two sets of bunkhouses, with showers and toilets, that can sleep 30+ guys in each bunkhouse. There is plenty of space to spread out to be socially distant in the bunkhouses. You are also welcome to bring a tent, should you prefer to tent camp. There are hookups and spots for a limited number of RVs – although these are located on the opposite side of the camp from the bunkhouses and meeting room. Is transportation provided? Can I get a ride to the retreat? Yes. We can help coordinate rides for those who need or would like to ride up to the retreat with someone else. Whether you are planning to come out Friday evening or Saturday morning, we’ll make sure you have a ride. |
